The following qualifications are required:
Applicants must participate within Ankeny High School or Ankeny Centennial High School wrestling program during the
applicant’s senior year.
Applicants are not required to continue to compete in wrestling after graduation.
Applicants are not required to have been a member of the Ankeny Wrestling Club but are required to have attended and
helped out in at least 2 AWC practices during their senior year.
Applicants must submit a written essay which will be the primary factor in selecting the scholarship winners.
Completed applications and essays must be received prior to the end of the current school year. The scholarship
recipients will be notified on or before July 16th of the same year.
Enrollment and attendance to a post graduate institution is required. This would include a university, college, trade or
specialized school for the purpose of higher learning. The Scholarship will be paid at the conclusion of the 1st semester.
A minimum of a 2.0 GPA is required for the award to be paid out. Scholarship winners must provide the AWC board with
a copy of your first semester transcript from the qualified higher learning institution.
Essay: Each applicant will, in their own words, submit and essay answering the following questions:
- What are my post graduate plans?
- How have I been a role model to my team and teammates?
- What has the sport of wrestling taught me about sports and life?
- What ideals do I bring to the team, my school and my community?
- What does attending practices of the Ankeny Wrestling Club mean to me?
- Why do I feel I should be considered for this award?
The purpose of the written essay is to have each applicant express their thoughts and qualifications to the Board. Emphasis on their contributions to the team, school and community are important.
